Environmental Impact of Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria, Their Role in Intestinal Bowel Diseases, and Possible Control by Bacteriophages

چکیده

Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) represent a group of prokaryotic microorganisms that are widely spread in the anoxic environment (seabed, riverbed and lakebed sediments, mud, intestinal tract humans animals, metal surfaces). SRB species also have an impact on processes occurring including connections between their presence inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Since these can develop antimicrobial resistance toward drugs, antibiotics agents, bacteriophages could additional potential effective treatment. The main objectives review were as follows: (a) to (both from environmental sources) regarding role diseases well influence processes; (b) review, according literature data, possible applications. significant adverse industry animals health, phage treatment be seen method inhibition. However, there relatively few studies concerning phages strains. Siphoviridae Myoviridae families sulfide-producing phages. most recent induced, by UV light, Desulfovibrio vulgaris NCIMB 8303 desulfuricans ATCC 13541. Notwithstanding costly medically negative impacts SRB, they been subject studies. current search for alternatives chemical biocides has led renewed interest antibacterial biocontrol therapeutic use against SRB. Hence, might promising future.

Etiological Role of Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria in the Development of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Ulcerative Colitis

Inflammatory bowel disease and ulcerative colitis are complex multifactorial diseases of unknown etiology. The etiological role of the sulfate-reducing bacteria Desulfovibrio piger Vib-7 and Desulfomicrobium sp. Rod-9 in the development of these inflammatory diseases in rats was studied. Applying sulfate-reducing bacteria, ulcerative colitis in the animals was experimentally induced at the fist...

Arsenic Thiolation and the Role of Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria from the Human Intestinal Tract

BACKGROUND Arsenic (As) toxicity is primarily based on its chemical speciation. Although inorganic and methylated As species are well characterized in terms of metabolism and formation in the human body, the origin of thiolated methylarsenicals is still unclear. OBJECTIVES We sought to determine whether sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) from the human gut are actively involved in the thiolation...

Simultaneous Electricity Generation and Sulfur Removal by Electrogenic Sulfate Reducing Bacteria in BES System

The modern BioElectrochemical technologies can convert the energy stored in the chemical bonds of biodegradable organic materials to renewable electrical energy through the catalytic reactions of microorganisms while treating the waste waters. The present research was conducted to evaluate the efficiency of a single-chamber Bioelectrochemical system with the carbon aerogel catalyst, as a simple...

Bacteriophages and their endolysins for control of pathogenic bacteria

Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses that specifically infect bacterial cells. Phages were first discovered in the early 1900s and soon after, the concept of phage therapy was conceived. Phage therapy involves the application of bacterial viruses to eliminate pathogenic bacteria. The results of early human trials were hampered by limited knowledge of phage biology, poor experimental design and i...

THE EFFECTS OF INTESTINAL SULFATE-REDUCING BACTERIA ON COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR AND INTESTINAL TRANSIT IN MICE by NATHANIEL RITZ

This research reports the effects of two metabolic groups of bacteria on physiological activity and cognitive function in C57BL/6 mice. In one experiment, the mice on a diet supplemented with red kidney bean for 24 hr were able to complete an eight-arm radial learning maze in a shorter time than mice on a diet without red kidney beans. The median time required for mice to complete the maze when...
